Time of Transition … Pastoral Search Committee … Preaching … Leadership and Eldership Team … Small Groups … Service Opportunities

Time of Transition
As you know, this coming Sunday (the 24th), will be my last Sunday at Impact.  It’s hard to believe how quickly this day is approaching.  This will not be an easy day for me.  It marks the end of 4 amazing years as member of Impact church.  I also realize that this day will not be easy for some of you.  My departure is ushering in a time of transition for Impact.  The word “transition” makes us all feel uncomfortable and un-easy.  It’s difficult to let go of things that are certain (or at least appear that way) and to embrace the unknown.  Questions, concerns and different worries flood our minds as we think of this transition time.  It is my hope and prayer that God brings you all closer together during the next little while as you seek Him for direction and guidance.  While there is nothing I can say or do that will automatically ensure a completely smooth transition, I want you to know that I feel confident with the future of our church.  I’ve asked Bob Shelton, the national leader for church health within our convention, to come and speak at Impact this Sunday on the topic of “trusting God during times of transition.” Bob is a strong godly leader with lots of experience concerning church transitions.  I am excited for you to hear what he will have to share with us.  He will also be available after the service to answer any questions or concerns you may have.  Robert Pinkston, one of Impact’s founders, will also be at the service on Sunday and will be available to speak with any of you.

Pastoral Search Committee
I’ve asked the following five people to be on the Pastoral Search Committee:

Karl McDaniel:  Has been an Impact church elder for 2 years.  He will continue to serve on the eldership team for the coming year.

Sacha Bailey:  aka “Miss Impact” has been around since Impact first started.  She was on the leadership team last year and will continue to serve on it over the course of this next year.

Alvin Tseng:  Has been on the leadership team for the last year.  He will be around for another 2 years.

Ben Peterson: Has been a member of Impact for 3 years, has helped with worship and is now serving as one of our elders.

David Ritz:  Has just arrived in June.  He is serving full time at Impact for the next year as the assistant pastor.

What does being on the pastoral search committee mean?  This committee has been formed to prayerfully interview the different pastoral candidates that present themselves.  They are committing themselves to represent the Impact congregation, the best they can during this process.  They value your opinions, your suggestions and your concerns.  Please feel free to contact any of them.  Most importantly, they would appreciate your prayer support during this process.  They will be regularly updating the congregation concerning the progress of the pastoral search.  Currently they are in the process of interviewing two different pastoral candidates.   A full update is scheduled for Sunday, October 1st.  It is also important to note that this pastoral search committee has the on-going help and support of five previous Impact leaders; Danny Moore (former pastor), Monica Kay (former worship leader), Robert Pinkston (founder), Michael Guenter (former elder) and Jeremy Jackson (former leader).

Preaching
In the absence of a full time pastor, Impact does have a small wealth of in house preachers/teachers.  On average, Karl McDaniel speaks about once a month and is willing to continue doing so over the course of this next year.  David Ritz, our assistant pastor, is currently earning a pastoral studies degree from Briercrest College and is eager to preach once a month over the course of this next year.  Ben Peterson works full time for YWAM and has teaching/preaching experience with them.  He will be preaching a couple of times over this next year.  As we mentioned last week at Impact, one Sunday a month will be dedicated to our alternative services (testimonies/worship through creative arts/multi-media/discussion groups etc…).  Raina is heading that up: raina@impactchurch.ca .  From time to time Impact will continue to invite the following three guest speakers; Glenn Smith, Ron Young and Robert Pinkston.

Leadership and Eldership Team
Even though we are entering a transitionary time with no pastor, I am very confident with the guidance of the existing leadership and eldership team.  As you heard a few Sundays ago, each of them contributes a unique and important aspect of church leadership.  In the absence of a pastor, our current assistant pastor (David Ritz), together with the wisdom and council of our eldership team, will be the point person for Impact church.  If you need to speak to someone and you don’t know where to turn, please contact David and he will do his best to point you in the right direction.
I also want to remind you that God is the one that birthed Impact in the first place.  He is the One that called people all over the planet (literally) to come and lead it. He is the One that allowed it to grow into the church it is today.  He has been faithful to us in the past and I am confident he will continue to be faithful to us in the future.

Colossians 1:17,18
He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy

All Blessings,

Luc
